She earned her B.S. in Exercise Science from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in 2015 and went on to earn her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona in December 2017. Dr. Katie has practiced in the inpatient rehabilitation and acute care settings. Being of service and inspiring change are two of Dr. Katie’s greatest passions. Practicing physical therapy allows for her to do both on a daily basis. Treating older adults is where Dr. Katie believes she makes her greatest impact on her community. She believes that this population is significantly underserved and underestimated. Older adults are resilient. They are our same athletes with some years of added experience and wisdom. It is essential that physical therapists and all health care providers recognize that older adults have unique needs, none of which include handling them with kid gloves. Dr. Katie has been particularly impacted by Alzheimer’s disease, as she’s had one aunt, two great-aunts, and one great-uncle who have battled/are battling this horrible condition. It is through her personal experience with it that she became so inspired to do everything possible to be part of the solution to this disease. She believes that living an active lifestyle is crucial to combating the effects of Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and physical therapists serve a vital role in ensuring people are able to remain as active as possible for as long as possible. In order to increase her knowledge of and ability to best serve the geriatric client, Dr. Katie became a Geriatric Certified Specialist (GCS) in June 2020.
